In Yokosuka, Japan, the eighth edition of the Japan-India Maritime Exercise (JIMEX-24) started today. This bilateral naval exercise, which is being hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force (JMSDF), aims to improve the two countries’ partnership in defense.

Indian and Japanese Participation

INS Shivalik, an indigenously built stealth frigate of the Indian Navy, is taking part in JIMEX-24. JS Yugiri, a guided missile destroyer, is standing in for the JMSDF.

Phases of the Exercise

Harbour Phase

The purpose of the harbor phase is to improve communication and develop a deeper connection between the troops on the two ships.

Sea Phase

The goal of the sea phase is to determine both navies’ capacity for combat. Through complex multidisciplinary activities in the air, subsurface, and surface domains, it seeks to improve interoperability. The continuous efforts to strengthen India and Japan’s defense relationship include this regular drill.
