Hello, everyone
May 28th is an important date on the calendar: World Hunger Day. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the worldwide issue of hunger and malnutrition.
Millions are affected by Hunger Every Day
Can you imagine going a day without eating? Sadly, this is the reality for a whopping 820 million people worldwide. A lack of sufficient nutrition causes a chain reaction of health issues, including stunted growth, reduced immunity, and even death.
A Day to Reflect and Take Action
World Hunger Day serves as an important reminder that hunger is a very real issue. It’s a day to not only indicate the difficulties of people getting food insecurity but also to take action towards building a future where everyone has access to the essential need of food.
The History of World Hunger Day
The fight against hunger has been going on for ages. Following World War I, the importance of global food security grew. Amartya Sen, an economist, conducted significant research that promoted the significance of distribution difficulties and government policies during famine. The discovery, which won a Nobel Prize in 1998, cleared the path for an improved approach to combating hunger.
The Hunger Project launched World Hunger Day on May 28th, 2011.
Thriving Mothers, Thriving World: 2024’s Theme
This year’s theme, “Thriving Mothers, Thriving World,” underscores the vital role that mothers play in providing healthy food for themselves and their children. Malnutrition in women may have terrible repercussions, damaging not only their own well-being but also the health and development of their children.
