Hey, sports fans!

We have some excellent news from the world of gymnastics! Dipa Karmakar has broken history by becoming the first Indian gymnast to win a gold medal at the Asian Senior Championships.

Dipa Karmakar scored excellently in the women’s vault finals in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, averaging 13.566 points. Her excellent score won her the gold medal, leaving North Korean gymnasts Kim Son Hyang (silver) and Jo Kyong Byol (bronze) in her trail.

This is not Dipa Karmakar first rodeo with gymnastics success. While she just missed out on a medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, coming fourth in the vault final, she is no stranger to the podium. In reality, she had previously won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2015 Asian Championships.

While Dipa Karmakar vaulting abilities are clear, the all-around competition proved more challenging. She placed 16th with a score of 46.166, falling just short of earning an Olympic quota slot for India in gymnastics at the upcoming Paris 2024 Games. Emma Malabuyo of the Philippines won the only quota available in the Tashkent meet, finishing third with a score of 50.398.

However, Dipa Karmakar’s Olympic goals are far from finished! She took part in qualification events in Cairo, Baku, and Doha, making the finals in all three but falling short of a podium spot. While she ended fifth in Cairo, she came agonizingly close to bronze in Baku and Doha, finishing fourth.
